Naseeruddin Shah

Naseeruddin Shah is a Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan honoree and an Indian stage and film actor, director and environmentalist. Shah was born in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, on July 20, 1950. He is an alumnus of National School of Drama.

He made his debut with a small role in film Aman in 1967. Shah has acted in movies such as Nishant, Aakrosh, Sparsh, Mirch Masala, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai, Trikal, Bhavani Bhavai, Junoon, Mandi, Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!, Ardh Satya, Katha, and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. One of his most important films was Masoom, in which he played a family man who, after learning about the son born out of an extramarital affair in the past, decides to bring him into his family, despite his wife’s objections. Shabana Azmi played the female lead opposite him.

Shah is one of the pioneers of the parallel cinema movement in India that started in India during the 70s.
